“One Earth, Two Worlds” – Green Wing Macaw – 30”X 40” This painting was done at a time when I had recently acquired a parrot. I was so fascinated by these creatures with their beauty, intelligence and character. Some people had told me that I shouldn’t have one as a pet because many species were endangered. However, it is the destruction of habitat that is reducing the populations of these wonderful birds. Actually, captive bred parrots may be the only hope for some species. Within the silhouette of the domed parrot cage you will see the trees of their natural habitat. Outside it is clouds, symbolizing freedom. It was painted so the line disappears when in black and white, symbolizing the disappearance of their natural habitat and the fine line between hope and extinction.
