Murals by Mark Mittlesteadt Mark paints murals on almost anything, from bike tanks to semi trailers, from garage doors to barns. Whatever kind of custom artwork you need, large or small, on any kind of surface, Mark can do it for you. The following pictures are descriptions and photos of just some of the murals Mark has done... ____________________________________________ Murals on Bike Tank and Fenders... These murals were painted on the tank and fenders of Ron Neumann's bike. Ron's bike has a skull theme and he wants the whole bike done in skulls. I painted his Air Cleaner Cover (shown further below) All photos below show the tank and fenders after clear-coating so there are a lot of reflections of my surrounding studio (and are not defects in the mural or finish).. Tank
Back Fender Most of the back fender gets covered by the rack and packs so only the back sides were painted.

____________________________________________ Murals at Acorn Hills Assisted Living Facility - Mosinee These murals were painted within three weeks time, during construction of the facility. Wildlife Room 22 ft. wide X 8 ft. high (10 ft. high at center) This mural depicts a camping/lake scene. I decided to move the setting sun off to the left to highlight the loon in the water, and to provide a darker area for the campfire. Flower Garden Room 22 ft. wide X 8 ft. high (10 ft. high at center) This mural depicts the owner's backyard. They have a beautiful flower garden and their dog is resting on the lawn in the scene. (click on the image to see a larger view) Detail pic of the owner's dog in the mural...
Spa Room 8 ft. wide X 4 ft. high This mural is in the Spa room with the hot tub. People enjoying the hot tub can sit back and enjoy the colorful underwater scene...
Beauty Room 8 ft. wide X 8 ft. high This mural is in the Beauty room, where they can relax and get their hair cut and styled. The ocean scene is framed in by marble columns. We weren't sure what to put in the ocean scene, but decided on a flower in a vase on the railing.

Suzuki Bike Tank - "Skull on Fire" This was a bike tank from a Suzuki motorcycle. It was not in good shape and the owner did not want it repaired...just a mural painted on it and clear coated. The tank is not clear coated yet in these photos.

Wild Birds Unlimited "Maple Tree" mural with Birds This "tree" started out as a 1.5 ft. X 2 ft. X 12 ft high "bump out" in a store. The owners Lori and Rocky Schubring of Wild Birds Unlimited were very enthusiastic about turning it into a real looking tree with real branches mounted on a sculpted drywalled tree. After cutting my own "bark making" tool, I sculpted the drywall mud into bark shapes and then painted it to look like a maple tree. Then I carved over 19 birds in more drywall mud and then painted them. Here's a few photos of the mural. What we started with...and what we ended up with...
Now, the tree itself... I carved and painted the bark and added fill around the branches to make them look like they were growing out of the trunk.
With some birds...
The Whole Tree..."The General"

Pet Store Mural. This mural was painted back in the mid 1990's for a pet store in Merrill. The mural is 10 ft. high and about 15 feet wide. It incorporated hundreds of animals hidden within the mountain landscape, as well as the face of the store owner. Mark also created a living pond in front of it that housed fish and anole lizards living among the plants.
______________________________________________________ Guitar Mural. This mural was painted on a Fender Strat to replace the plain black finish. The owner was a hunter and wanted a whitetail hunting scene over the body and pickguard of the guitar.
______________________________________________________ Lion, Lamb and Dove A religious mural done in a private residence.

________________________________________________ Taxidermy Dioramas in Private Museum in Montana These murals were 40 feet long X 14 feet high, one on each end of the inside of a barn that displayed animal mounts from around the world. Mark worked with Leanne Meyer to create North American Rockies and African dioramas. To see the complete project as it progressed, click Here.
